UPPINGHAM CHORAL SOCIETY
Uppingham Choral Society is a friendly amateur choir, of approximately sixty members. Its members live either in Uppingham or in the surrounding area, and it is conducted by Peter Clements, a member of the Music Department at Uppingham School.
We are always pleased to recruit new members; there are no auditions. We rehearse from 8.00-10.00pm on Thursday evenings in the Methodist Church in Orange Street. Our season runs from September through to our Spring Concert, although in 2008 we had an additional concert at the Uppingham Fringe Festival in June. We always hold a Christmas and a Spring Concert.
Recent performances have included Rutter Gloria, Mozart Requiem, Haydn Nelson Mass, Vivaldi Gloria and Parry Blest Pair of Sirens.
We are at present preparing Handel's Saul for our forthcoming concert on Saturday 25th April 2009. The concert will take place in Uppingham Parish Church at 7.30pm.

Rutland Sinfonia
The Rutland Sinfonia was formed in 1976 by Barry Collett, the orchestra's Conductor Emeritus. This full symphony orchestra draws its players from the leading instrumentalists in an area which includes Rutland, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. The aim of the Sinfonia is to bring high quality orchestral music to small and medium sized towns in rural areas which may have limited access to the arts scene available in the surrounding cities. The Sinfonia concentrates on the repertoire for medium to large scale orchestral works and its programme include both well-known, popular works as well as lesser know pieces deserving of greater public attention. This coming season includes the first performance of a specially written piece for the orchestra.
The orchestra meets on the three Fridays preceding a concert as well as a rehearsal on the afternoon of a concert. Rehearsals are held at Upingham C of E Primary School, Belgrave Rd Uppingham at 7.30pm. If you are interested in joining please contact the secretary Madeleine Stanley on 01780 752031 or msstanley@btinternet.com
